Mr. Piérola is Senior counsel at the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL) in Geneva, Switzerland. In this position, he represents developing country governments in WTO dispute settlement proceedings and provides legal advice and training on WTO law. Thus far, he has participated in more than 10 disputes involving matters relating to trade remedies, market access, and internal regulations. Prior to joining the ACWL, Mr. Piérola served as a Legal Adviser to the Antidumping and Subsidies Commission, which is Peru's investigating authority for anti-dumping, subsidies and safeguards. He has also worked for the University Bern, as a Research Fellow at the World Trade Institute.

Mr. Piérola is the author of a Spanish language text on WTO dispute settlement, for which he received the 2003 Inter-American Bar Association Best Book Award. The book is currently in its 2nd edition with the title "Solución de Diferencias ante la OMC: Presente y Perspectivas" (Cameron May, 2008). He is a regular commentator of WTO law and jurisprudence. He is a member of the Editorial Board and columnist on WTO law of the Global Trade and Customs Journal. He has given lectures on WTO matters at the World Trade Institute, the Geneva Graduate Institute for International Studies, the University of Lausanne, the WTO, UNCTAD, the Inter-American Development Bank, South-Centre, ICTSD, the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences, and the Catholic University of Peru.

Mr. Piérola holds a lawyer's degree from the Catholic University of Peru. He has a master’s degree in International Law and Economics (MILE) from the World Trade Institute of the Universities of Berne, Fribourg and Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He has a masters in Business Administration from the University of Geneva, and he is completing a PhD in Law at the University of Bern.
